If you choose to read Veterinary Medicine at the graduate level, you get access to a very practical study. You learn to examine and treat animals to the diseases and disorders which they may have incurred. Treatment and prevention go hand in hand, and also learn how animal welfare and general well-being may contribute to disease outbreaks and infection can be reduced significantly. Professionally, there is still a strong focus on science disciplines with subjects such as pathology and forensic medicine. Teaching is a great deal of time at the animal hospital affiliated faculty. The first year of Veterinary Medicine studies common to all students, but in the second year you have the opportunity to specialize and follow one of the five offered lines.
- Food
- Production Animals
- small pets
- biomedicine
- Horses
Common to the 5 offered lines is that you must finish writing a thesis, where you are dealing with a subject of theoretical and practical nature. There should at least entail an element of experimental work and research. After your thesis is approved you with peace of mind write Cand.Med.Vet. on your business card.
Food is the teaching of our food safety and the microorganisms found in them. These microorganisms can cause infection and continuation of diseases of animals and humans. Your focus is to identify, diagnose and combat these diseases before they spread to us humans such as when we go shopping or preparing food. Toksokologi and pathology are essential elements of the program.
Production Animal is a line where you get to work with the animals that use for the production of foods and related products. The Danish farm and production facilities have mainly chickens, pigs, cows and sheep as productive - but you can also involve fish. Your focus on the line is the treatment and prevention of the diseases that may occur on the crew. At the same time, you learn to ensure hygiene and food safety and may prevent infectious elements unleashed.
Small Animal is a line where you will be working with the livestock which we often describes as pets. Everything from birds to dogs and cats. Here the focus is on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders.
Biomedicine is an exciting line where you learn to research and develop new medicinal products using biological techniques and processes. Biomedicine is also the study of diseases seen at a molecular and cellular level. You also learn how different medications and drugs affect the body.
Horses is a line where horses and their disease is in the center. You will receive instructions on a horse hospital and will get acquainted with the horses' behavior and how to appropriately treat their illnesses.
