BECOME ship officer HOS AP MOLLER-MAERSK:
Training of ship's officer is a mixture of at master and engineer education. The program gives you a broad knowledge of the maritime sector, and depending on which direction you choose to go during the training, you can either work as an engineer or master after finishing education. It is also possible to work as a ship's manager, which means that both specializing as engineer and master.

AT SEA:
During your period as officer cadet being associated with one of the ships in the fleet. You will both have time on the bridge and in the engine. This will give you insight into the various tasks at the same time you have the opportunity to test the theory in practice. You will during your internship period be affiliated with one of the trained officers.

First internship:
This internship will take place in a fleet container ships, and you will be up to four cadets of place at the same time. The internship period is about three months, giving you the opportunity to experience life aboard the ship while seeing something of the world.

Second internship:
Other training period is characterized in that to get around the whole fleet. You will, therefore, as far as possible, come out on both a container, tanker and supply ship. You will gain experience with different types of ships, while you gain insight into the various duties of machinery and on the bridge. Between the first and second period of practical training have you received instruction in particular mechanical engineering, navigation and marine engineering. It is therefore expected that you take more active part in the practical work on the ship.

AT THE SCHOOL:
Training of ship's officer consists of a junior and a senior module. At the senior module choose in which direction you want to specialize.

JUNIOR MODULE:
The first six months of course take place at SIMAC in Svendborg. In this part of the training will include receive training in safety, maritime English and basic seamanship. Additionally, you come workshop school.

After basic training, you come out to sail for three months. Then you continue on workshop chair for three months, where you will have to work more in depth with the theory, which among other things involving subjects such as:

• Navigation
• Mechanical engineering, marine engineering and electrical engineering
• Sailing simulator
• Fire-fighting, incl. røgdykkerkursus
• Radio Course and meteorology

The course lasts 21 months, after which you take on another internship at sea.
When other internship is over write a bachelor before you can begin the senior module.

SENIOR MODULE:
You need the senior module choose the direction in which you want to specialize, whether it should be within the nautical or technical field. You can also choose to continue with both. You will during training achieve the same high competence as maskinmester- and master degree program. When you are finished educated ship officer you have, depending on which direction you have chosen to specialize, the theoretical evidence that qualifies you to become chief engineer or captain. You will, however, after graduation to start your career as a junior officer. It is then the practical experience that is crucial to how fast your career will progress.
