Linguistics

Linguistics is the study of linguistics and the focus is how language is structured, developed and used over the years. You will among other things to concern yourself with aspects of linguistics as phonetics (pronunciation), grammar, semantics (the meaning of words) and phonology (sounds function in the language).

With Linguistics gives you the skills to analyze and interpret most forms of language - you can assess texts content critical in structure and form. A future linguist will often find employment at a university as a linguist or teacher. But the trend is that students with a linguistic background demanded by several private companies, mainly working on computational linguistics and development of IT systems. So it's up to you to plan your future education and careers, as it can go in many directions.

The study linguistics also responds to questions as why people speak as they do, how our linguistic ability is stored in the brain, how language and society are linked and how humans can learn a language, and what to do if you lose a language.

At the same time used languages ​​also to show the status and power they possess. In the study linguistics studying the language structure itself, but also how people take advantage of language in social life. You study everything from grammar and sound in the world's languages ​​to Danish daily conversations and today's language situation in Denmark.

In the study linguistics studying the language, but no specific language. Instead, you learn how language, in general, is built up and the conditions that are between different languages. For although language can be very different, so there are often common. You will get to study the rules for how the sounds linked to words, words into sentences and on to meaningful speech and writing. The starting point in the study is Danish, but when you become more experienced in linguistics, you can use the techniques in other languages ​​too.

There are many ways language can be considered on. Eg. in historical contexts, or as a sign system that reflects the language the user's mental and social perception of reality. You will further learn to see language as the medium of communication that shape national identities, determines society and get the daily cohabitation work.
