History is in many ways the doctrine of social development seen in both a political, social, economic and technological perspective. History as the study is also about learning about the features of the past in order to explain current problems in our society. World history is indeed a large number of events that can be interpreted in many ways, and you get as a student a lot of tools for critical approach to both events, sources and other historians.
As a historian, you can later choose to teach or do research in history. Historians may also find employment in the private sector, but it requires a particular job function in major or specialized companies.
The study of history can be briefly described with the following well-known phrase: "The best way to understand the present is to study the past." As one can infer from the sentence gives the study of history you an understanding of why the world looks as it does today. So why is all history does not, as many believe, to learn the past by heart, but to be able to relate to the past, question it and come up with interpretations thereto.
A Master's degree in History gives you free rein to shape your own professional profile. But fundamentally you can choose to go two ways, either as a school teacher or in General History.
High school teacher training must of course qualify to teach at secondary level. You choose in principle two subjects where history is obviously one. Your gymnasietilvalgsfag may be a relevant subjects taught in high school.
General History is a kind of complement to your education history, and you can here very much itself create your own profile.
You will study exploring the development as people and societies have undergone from the earliest times to today's current hot spots. You'll get into the social, economic, ideological, political and cultural conditions that have prevailed in Denmark and the rest of the world through the ages and you will gain insight on the workings that binds the story together crisscross.
You start by obtaining a wide knowledge of the world and the history of Denmark in the first two years of your study. Here you get an overview and significant developments and key issues, and expand on a number of historical topics.
The teaching takes place in groups of 20-30 students. In teaching, there are lectures, student presentations and room for discussion and questions. It is important to be part of a reading group since in together we needed to prepare and discuss relevant topics. You will have to provide more in the beginning of the study familiarize yourself with English and German as much of the literature on the study is in these languages.
