Hans & Grete

In 1907 Fritz Ferdinand Hansen opened a shop with tea and coffee in Aarhus. Hans & Grete has since moved from the smallest rooms to the big and to the small again, depending on the demand, which has developed with many fluctuations in the store's history. As with any other business, Hans & Grete was also influenced by World War II, which ended temporarily because of the commodity that ravaged the whole of Denmark.

Hans & Grete's biggest competitor, back in the late 1900s, was named Java Brænderiet and primarily sold coffee, while Hans & Grete primarily sold tea. In 1996, the two merged into a large business, which became the center of trade of coffee and tea in Aarhus. Today, Hans & Grete is still family-owned and sells coffee, tea, chocolate including specialties like Chai tea , organic coffee and tea and oolong tea, imported from both small and large plantations worldwide.

In today's Denmark, it is easy to buy bad coffee in our wide-ranging café culture, and nobody questions what they put in their mouth anymore. Instead, you sip sugar-filled mixed drinks that barely taste of what they should. At Hans & Grete you are welcome to ask the right questions for both production, working conditions and quality. This ensures that the store only offers the best of the best without compromising. At Hans & Grete, quality is above all, social responsibility and authenticity. You are deeply aware of the suppliers and the conditions under which the products are produced. On the website you will find a wide range, with space for both specialties, ecology and all sorts of equipment.

Hans & Grete works to make good old-fashioned coffee and tea with the right taste and the right service. When you enter the shop you will meet with an overwhelmingly beautiful scent of the many different teas, the shop is warm and cozy. It is clear to see that there are genuine tea and coffee enthusiasts who are staying here. Hans & Grete goes up to offer the best service and guidance possible. Therefore, you are guided by what you do not know yet, with the help of competent employees. Employees understand most wishes and can advise in any price range. They focus on the customer and collaborate with them to find the best solution that matches your wishes and budget.

Hans & Grete is to be understood as a shop that will offer it the good kind of coffee and tea that has been hard to find in Danish restaurants and cafes where speed is a priority over quality and a high-grade character. The coffee and tea that the new generation does not know they need but love the first time they taste it. The coffee and tea, which is like a taste explosion compared to today's processed, chemically-stuffed foods. The real coffee and tea.

The concept can be understood as an honest statement of a thorough distance from poor, processed and preserved food and beverages. At Hans & Grete, you simply tolerate nothing but the best, authentic, perfectly roasted coffee and the delicious, tasteful, thoroughly sorted tea. Many resources are being used to find the right suppliers, with the healthiest plantations, where the soil, the climate and the employees are the starting point for a healthy quality product with the best content.

Hans & Grete has always been, is and will always be Aarhus's coffee and tea expert. Today, the store, with over a hundred years of experience in the area, is a rarity in the big city, with many loyal customers. However, the store is experiencing a growing number of new inquisitive customers who quietly shy away from the food industry's shortcomings and are being switched to quality goods.
