Are you interested in history, society and culture of countries like Russia, Serbia, Croatia and Hungary, then East European Studies enough for you. You learn on the study of all these countries, but you will start having to choose one of the Countries, which you need to specialize in language terms. When you choose which language you want to specialize in, you can start sharing the languages into two groups. Russian, Serbo-Croatian and Czech is Slavic languages, while Finnish, Hungarian and Estonian belong to a non-Indo-European language tribe - the Finno-Ugric.
There is no need to any of the languages in advance, as the program starts with a thorough beginner's course that gives you the basic skills of the language. Much emphasis on the language portion of East European Studies for when you know the language, you can learn about its history, society, economy, political situation, etc. through its own media, literature, film, etc. As other language and country studies is emphasized that you learn to communicate your insights in the Eastern European issues to a wide audience.
