For over 3000 years, the Native American tribes in the Mesoamerican region existed and evolved without the knowledge of the rest of the world and without the rest of the world aware of them.
The study of Native American Languages and Cultures deals with the rich cultural heritage that is linked to the Mesoamerican region. Mesoamerica is geographically the area that runs through central Mexico and further down into Central America and covers countries like Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and more. Some advanced civilizations (Incas, Mayas and Aztecs) existed here a long time for Europeans became acquainted with the area by Christopher Columbus 'discovery of the Americas (which he mistakenly thought was India). You get a unique opportunity to work with Mesoamerican culture through a variety of scientific disciplines such as history, linguistics, anthropology, art history, archeology. You also learn to read texts in the Aztec language (nawatl) and the Maya language (maya).

By learning the Mayan language and culture you will experience some exciting secrets of the ancient culture.
You become a modern Indiana Jones can explain to the layman on how they built these pyramid temples that are partly similar to those in Egypt and you can participate in excavations in the area.
However, it is most prudent to take the training if you plan to visit Central America often or perhaps will settle you over there to get the most out of it.
If you learn Spanish next to you can also go a long way in the trade industry with the Central and South American countries.
