Eskimology and Arctic Studies is a training focused on the Arctic and their language, society, culture and history, with most focus on Greenland.
Eskimology and Arctic Studies is an interdisciplinary education in the sense that teaching involves both humanities and social science disciplines. On the humanistic side, you learn Inuit (Eskimos) quite peculiar language in speech and writing. Alongside language training, you concentrate on society as a cultural and historical development of the Arctic. You also get a broad knowledge of social and political conditions that exist in the Arctic.
As mentioned, the focus sharpened on Greenland, but you also get the chance to become acquainted with other parts of the Arctic as Alaska, Siberia and Canada. Specifically, the items BSc in Eskimology and Arctic Studies 3 years and teaching is organized as follows:
First-half years is a beginner's course in West Greenland which is required to deal critically with many of the sources used for teaching.
The next 2 1/4 years teaching in compulsory basic studies with subjects like, among other Inuit culture and society, culture and social science theory and analysis, Eskimologiens faghistorie and theories, as well as Greenland Studies.
In the last 3/4 years of training, you can freely choose elective course for your Bachelor's degree.
The study and teaching
Eskimology and Arctic Studies is a small study with only about 10 new students each year. This means that all students know each other and compared and study groups thrive in style. There currently. hired two permanent teachers at Eskimology and Arctic Studies and the study is often visited by PhD students, researchers, foreign researchers and experts as guests with lectures, general educational and interesting lectures.
Much of the teaching takes place in small groups, where the interaction between student and teacher is great and there is great potential for answers to questions and good discussions. Apart from teaching you work in study groups, where you together with 2-3 other of your fellow students to solve projects and assignments given by the teacher.
At the end of the bachelor program you have good opportunities to go to Greenland or other arctic area, and conduct field work. Fieldwork involves you come close to your studio simply to stay in the Arctic communities and study people and their culture up close.

It's hard to get a job with a bachelor's degree in Eskimology and Arctic Studies, therefore choose almost any student to read on and complete a master's degree.
