Earth is still very unexplored and especially the part of the ground below the water. As geophysicist you examine all the factors that come into play in the earth's history and future based on the information you obtain from the earth's atmosphere, ground and sea.
You map simply bowels of the earth, among other things, a method called seismic. Seismic is also a widespread method of finding oil. With the seismic data can namely "look and feel" through to different layers in the subsurface, as you can see reflections of the sound waves being sent off. So if you've always wondered how you know that the Earth's outer core is liquid, it is using seismic data.
So geophysics is very relevant for finding oil or water in the subsoil, which we will gradually start to have scarce resources of.
An MSc in Geophysics takes two years and mixes key elements from different scientific disciplines with mathematical models to explain the properties of our soil, climate, oceans, and atmosphere.
- You will learn the basic physical principles and laws that govern the geophysical systems.
- You will learn about climate change and the governing processes.
- You will learn about the physics of ice sheet movement and the removal of the drill samples.
- You will learn about geodesic measurements based on the latest satellite technology.
- You will learn about measuring the oceans' movement and understanding thereof.
- You will learn about atmospheric models building and the modern meteorological understanding behind them.
