Economics is, as the word suggests a study of society around us and, at times, complex relationships and structures that bind sizes as economics, politics, welfare, law and labor together into an understandable whole. But Social Sciences is also down to earth with such topics as how to invest your money in such securities, in order to get the best possible return or how a politician should act to bring together a divided electorate about his message.
Economics is a very broad scientific field, where almost everything related to the community can be involved. You will really expand your horizons through a number of specific issues which are all practically rooted in our society. You learn to work with scientific methods, so that later you can solve complex problems of social scientific nature. The Social Sciences Bachelor 3 years and through this process you will be taught to ask critical questions and analyze social science problems.
You also get a solid insight into the various disciplines such as social science is composed. The disciplines that you can get acquainted with are: Economics, political science, social studies, strategy and leadership, microeconomics, international studies, European studies, informatics, urban planning, work, sociology and many more.
Study content is 4 semesters of Social Sciences Bachelor's degree and focus on the basic studies on the project writing and teaching of elective courses. The courses that you can choose to follow gives you a thorough introduction to both classic and newer social science theories and methods. Like other programs at the University of Roskilde, it is 100% up to you to be responsible for your own learning, and in particular the challenges you put on yourself as a student. It is highly recommended to engage and then just get out of the plains.
There is literally 4 main subject areas based on the studies of the various courses offered are in tune. It's like: Economy, which focuses on production and distribution in society. Political Science, which is about a state and its structure, and the institutions that help to create unity power in society. Political Science is also teaching in the form of government democracy, and how power should be distributed to achieve the greatest potential benefit to all social groups. Sociology, which is about how humans interact with each other. About the interaction between the individual and society and the complications that can arise if certain communities are marginalized or suppressed. Planning, which is about concrete planning of the various activities which society is responsible. It may be urban planning, development of technology for use in industry or how we develop measures which ensure that the environment is not adversely affected by the production and expansion of the community. Each semester you develop a project with your study group of between 4-7 students.
The starting point of the project is a self-selected social science issue. Your project group is assigned to a tutor who will assist with advice and sparring. Next to your project, you must at all four semesters follow a number of courses that you can freely choose from. Most courses offer general introductions to special social sciences, while individual courses provide you with a specialized knowledge of a particular social science field.
In the first year, held the social science foundation course. Here you will be introduced to political science, economics, sociology and planning, space and resources. There are also courses in social science method, a literature search course and a course called a colloquium where you can help to define the subject. In the second year there is a course in scientific theory and three thematic courses such as can be about power and democracy, globalization or organizational theory, or be advanced courses in one of the four disciplines: political science, economics, etc. Furthermore held two symposia and a social science methodology course.
