Assyriology is the study of Mesopotamian history, culture and language. However, "what is Mesopotamia? " Asks you safe. Mesopotamia is the area between the two great rivers Euphrates (mesos in ancient Greek) and Tigris (potamos in ancient Greek). The area lies today in Iraq, but was in the dawn of time (about 5000 BC) home to many exciting and magnificent cultures. Later in world history occurred two great civilizations in the area, Assyria and Babylonia. The texts you come to study are based on different languages like Sumerian, Akkadian (Babylonian and Assyrian), Hittite and hurritisk. The purpose of education is that you learn about all aspects of this ancient, but far advanced culture. You'll incoming engage in politics, economy, trade, religion and society at the time.
The program Assyriology will follow the other two directions: Egyptology and Near Eastern archeology in the first half year, as many of the subjects are the same. Some of the differences are from the other subjects are the Assyrian trading letters, dating from the Bronze Age. These letters allow you to understand the ancient culture and society and you will eventually be able to immerse yourself completely in that time.
