University gets 100 million. kr.

University has received a donation of 100 million kr. The donation comes from Nordea Fund and must go to a big research project that supports public health with a focus on children's health, well-being and wellness.
OPUS as the project is called, will run over the next five years and is the largest of its kind in the world. The research project is thus helping to put Denmark at the forefront internationally in relation to remedial as obesity, learning-difficulties and failure to thrive in children. The project is expected to provide a very valuable knowledge when it comes to the prevention of obesity-related diseases in children in general. One area the project should focus on is the development of a new meal concept to be introduced in schools and families across the country, and is based on Nordic ingredients. The vision is that New Nordic Food will be the 21st Century to the Mediterranean diet. Director of the new OPUS center, which hosts around forskingsprojektet, is Professor Arne Astrup. It will be located at the Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, where some of the scientists to come. In addition, scientists from the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Copenhagen, Fødevareinsituttet at DTU, Meyers Food, Food Gentofte Hospital and the Danish School of Education at Aarhus University also participate.
