Young people's level of education is very different among municipalities

There are big differences between municipalities on how many of the young people who completed 9th grade in 2010, which is expected to get a secondary education over the next 25 years. The projections show a profile of the model for 2010.

In December 2011, the so-called profile model 2010 published. Profile model is a projection of how the young people who completed 9th grade in 2010, is expected to train over the next 25 years. The results are now available at the municipal level, and there are large differences between municipalities on how young people are expected to train.

The results show that there is a spread of 83 to 94 percent of the young people who are expected to complete at least upper secondary education. The spread is less than for the young people who completed 9th grade in 2009 when it is expected that between 79 and 94 percent of young people completing at least upper secondary education.

It is particularly municipalities north of Copenhagen and several municipalities in Central Jutland and Hjørring Municipality, which has a high proportion of young people who are expected to achieve at least a secondary education. The share is particularly low in Copenhagen and suburban municipalities of Copenhagen. Also Bornholm and peripheral municipalities on Zealand is low.

Although the profile of the model shows that more and more young people nationwide through a youth education, the Children and Education Christine Antorini concerned about the large differences between municipalities.

"It should not depend on where you live, or what your parents' background is, if you get a secondary education. It is a top priority for the government that all children and young people will be lifted so they can do more in education. That's why we have a school reform under way, and that's why we just established a training committee to look at how we can increase the quality of vocational training and more training places, "says Christine Antorini.

Also differences in higher education

The differences are large between municipalities when it comes to how many are expected to complete higher education. Here are spread from 39 to 72 percent. There are also seven municipalities that are over 60 percent, which is the government's target of 2020.

Profile of the model results do not reflect the general level of education in the municipalities, but only for the 9th graders who attended municipal schools.
