SDU into battle against electronic cheating

Using mobile scanners will invigilators at SDU now find it easier to detect cheating among students for exams. SDU is the first university in Denmark that uses mobile scanners. Mobile scanner will not immediately be visible to the students and will only be found on suspicion of cheating. The scanner has been used during December and taken seriously in January, where many exams typically take place.

Kurt Gammelgaard, IT manager at the University of Southern Denmark says:
"It has always been forbidden to use his mobile phone during the exam, but in practice it has been difficult to control. Especially if the student went to the toilet. The scanner we can detect if a cell phone is on and it works like a kind geiger counter, where the signal increases as we get closer to "

Everyone must know the rules

SDU continuously working to minimize cheating, it typically happens with practical steps such mobile scanner, but also very much through information campaigns targeted to the students.

Morten Hansen, head of studies at the University of Southern Denmark says:
"We do a lot of prevention interventions, because it turns out that some of the scams are because students do not know the rules well enough."
