The trip in 2018 will be even cheaper than 2017

If you - like so many other Danes right now - go out in the summer of 2017, you can enjoy unprecedented cheap flights and hotels.

A return ticket to the US can now be obtained for less than 2,000 kroner with Norwegian if you buy your ticket in good time, like hotel stays in cities such as Berlin, Paris and even Copenhagen have also fallen in price.

It is especially related to 2 things:

Better conditions (for the aircraft) and intensified competition.

Flights fly farther for less fuel

Between 2000 and 2010, air passengers increased globally by 40%.

At the same time, fuel consumption increased by only 3%.

That calculation only depends on the fact that our aircraft have become more fuel efficient. When fuel is 40% of the cost of operating an airline, the lower cost per person means much for your final fare when you get into an airplane.

If you compare cheap flights today, you can find many European destinations for a few hundred dollars - RyanAir to Rome, EasyJet to London and Wizz Air to most of Eastern Europe. This can only be done thanks to the new and innovative aircraft.

It is not a challenge experts expect to turn. RyanAir's chief executive Michael O'Leary has said that he believes in the future that the airline ticket will be free - but that we pay to the airport and for a meal while traveling.

Intensified competition

We got recession at the end of 2008 marked by the bankruptcy of the US big bank Lehmann Brothers. Since then, the wheels have started to turn fast again and in recent years we have experienced a real boom.

There is a lot of building built in the upswing. In Denmark, Copenhagen is particularly marked by the many new hotels that are being built. There are both hotels in Copenhagen for those who want a luxurious experience (think Hotel Admiral, Bella Sky) and those who want to stay cheap in the country's capital (think Zleep and Wakeup Copenhagen).

It is good not only for those who already live in Copenhagen and now have more places to go for romantic excursions or to have fun meetings in business regimes - it also helps to draw many tourists, conferences and fairs to the city - something that gathered Puts much more money in Copenhagen than what can be measured in terms of direct hotel revenue.

When does the upturn stop - when are we finished for this round of building cheap hotels in Copenhagen?

Like Storm P. Said, it's hard to predict - especially about the future. But do not think we have a couple of good years in us yet.

Your trip in 2018 will probably be even cheaper and even better than the one you have here in 2017 - and let's rejoice over it!
