Students drag our heels
The students have begun to procrastinate with their studies, to avoid falling into the already huge pile of unemployed.
The Danish students have long made as they should in relation to society. They have done their studies at the nomerede time, but in the wake of the economic crisis and rising unemployment, particularly among graduates, extension students now their studies.
Both the University of Aarhus and Copenhagen, the number of students who complete their Master's degree at the nomerede time, started to fall, or stand still.
Thunø who is dean of the University of Aarhus says, "It's a trend that all higher education struggle with the time that students give themselves more time to make the study finished, because there just is a job that is waiting for them ".
Many turn
Per Andersen, head of studies at SDU can not yet see the trend in statistics from the University of Southern Denmark.
"But it soon. The counselors here, get a lot of inquiries from students who want advice on how to expose the thesis or the scope of leave. It is quite logical that they think so, but I would advise them to be finished, and then they can get help finding a job. "
4 out of 10 students responded in a survey the union DJØF made last year that they had thought about extending their studies because there were no jobs to get when they were finished. And it recognizes student associations at the country's universities.
The method
The methodology used is to take the internship instead to take its course and take the examination, using several attempts at writing his thesis or to take fewer courses at the Master's program, says Torben Holm, who is chairman of the Danish Union of Students .
"It is clear that students who prolong their studies to become better, although it is not the optimum for society," he says.
Our Minister of Education, Morten Østergaard says: "If you are on SU longer than necessary, rather than to finish his education and find a job, so you cheat yourself. We know that unemployment among graduates is very high, but there are several initiatives that can help them get started, and 4 out of 5 is after all the work after a period of approximately 1 year".
