Researchers and students from the University holds several lectures in connection with the International Auschwitz
When the International Auschwitz in the period ahead will be marked around the country, it happens with a powerful feature from Southern University. In Odense takes place the event on Sunday at the town hall, where three history students from SDU will talk about the extermination camps for Jews in Poland. Jens-Christian Madsen talking about Auschwitz, Henrik Sommerlund about Chelmno and Gunnar Hach about Treblinka, while lecturer Therkel Strait, Institute of History and Civilization, holding a small lecture on the subject "Everyday places - genocidal places ". The three history student has in recent weeks been out and give lectures for the upper classes in a number of schools. Also in the nationwide seminars for high school students, as Danish Institute for International Studies conducts in several cities - including in Odense, Esbjerg and Aabenraa, participate more history students from SDU as workshop leaders. The purpose of Auschwitz Day is to commemorate the 20th century genocide and to discuss the ethical and political challenges that genocide and political mass murder confronts us. On 27 January 1945, the day when Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz and it is therefore this day, has been chosen to mark the International Auschwitz.
