Myths on humanities programs

Myths on humanities programs

The myths about the useless humanities lifelong learners are now once and for all sacrificed. The execution takes place in the report "Humanist survey 2007. Humanist The pathways from education to work", drawn up on behalf of all humanities faculties in the country with support from the AC and a number of trade and interest organizations.
The report pierce a number of myths about the arts and humanities graduates. First, the humanists only exceptionally practiced in the private sector. The answer is that 55% of graduates are employed in the private sector. The second is that it is mainly high school teacher jobs are current. The answer is that there is only concerned about 25%. The third myth is that the candidates are not mobile. The answer is that graduates of the province is very mobile in job search (61%) and about 50% get their first job outside the university towns. The fourth myth is that humanists have difficulty getting work. The answer is one-third of work before they have completed their education, and that most find work within a year after completion. The fifth myth is that the pay gap between Copenhagen and the rest of the country is significant. The answer is that the pay gap leveling in a few years, but that there is a difference between whether it is private or public official. - We obviously knew a long time, so it's nice to put a figure on what is up and down, says Ole Prehn, Dean of Humanities at Aalborg University. - The humanities so to the extent and in a short time have come into heat in both the private sector and in fields other than teaching in the public sector is a welcome but not surprising history. With the move towards the knowledge society and the increasing globalization, we have always said that the humanities have the future ahead of them, the humanities are part of this society. - For Aalborg University is also gratifying how much emphasis on project orientation in education, and also to interdisciplinary bulky when candidates do say so myself. For it is precisely on these and other points, AAU differ. Lectures will be with us a relatively marginal phenomenon. - We can also see that especially the "new" education responds well to labor market needs. We started Humanistic Informatics in 1985 and is now one of the university's biggest and therefore not entirely new. We are pleased with the results of the study, among other things will be the basis for our continued work to make education better yet, concludes Ole Prehn.
