Know your rights on student job

As a student, you get experience in private industry and a good addition to your SU.

But as new labor you risk making a bad deal for yourself. Therefore, you have a number of requirements enshrined in legislation and agreements that make you stronger against your employer.

You should not work more than what you can handle next to the studio.

There are no legal limits, but there may be contractual limits as explained below.

A student is a good way to get experience - but it must not go beyond the rest of your studio. Check therefore any applicable agreements. This is particularly relevant for apprentices and trainees that are certain are covered.

Equipment

Depending on the type of work you do, it may be appropriate to talk about additional equipment.

Here we see not, you need a computer as an office employee - that goes without saying.

Performing physical work, you may be entitled to a helmet, safety shoes , protective clothing and the tools you use meet a number of standards. Do you work in the field, your employer should pay outdoor clothing for you.

I work laws are written numerous precautions, your employer must take to ensure a safe workplace - both in terms of equipment you use what you clothe you and what you surround yourself with.

Salary (and overtime)

In Denmark, we have a statutory minimum wage.

Instead we let the two sides determine the proper wages through negotiations between the individual employer and takes as well as employer and employee organizations with agreements.

If you are covered by a collective agreement, you must have the wages and rights at least equal to this. If you're not covered, then it is your responsibility to negotiate your way to a safe level.

If you are a member of a union, you always have the opportunity to get checked if your salary is equivalent to the standards prevailing here. If you are a member of one of the Danish unemployment funds, you often have the option to upgrade to a union membership for a small amount extra.
