Havanabars history

The story of Havanabar started in spring 2005 in a deeper conversation around to Sønderborg lacked a Mexican restaurant. The passion for genuine homemade guacamole and native Spanish music, was the springboard for that today we are proud to present Havanabar for Sønderborg prices.

Side room to the Mexican restaurant "La Casa Mexicana" was aptly dubbed "Mexibar" and was intended diners guest the chance to finish the evening with an ice-cold mouthwatering jordbærmargharita.

As it belongs to should instead be inaugurated with a small reception where guests were invited to taste samples from the kitchen and a little wet to the palate. No reception without music, and here we had made contact with the Cuban student, Ivan Canot, who had played on African drums for a children's event in Sønderborg a few weeks earlier. The agreement was that Ivan would come with Cuban and African friends and play an hour for the invited guests reception. When the musicians arrived took it all a twist ...

As happens sometimes with the language barrier, there had been a small misunderstanding in relation to the perception of the evening's music task. Ivan had no drums with only a small suitcase with a handful of foreign CDs. Most reggaeton and bachacha, and when he started playing was born a mood that Sønderborg had not yet met. Ivan Canot had simply invited all his fellow students from other countries and they poured in. They brought a twinkle in his eye and the joy of anticipation was not to be mistaken. They were ready for a dance evening of character - and it was just what they got ...!

The music flowed out of the room - drum rhythms and salsa tunes warmed up during the dance-loving guests and dance floor in the little back room was filled to capacity for hours. We soon found out that this music caught people and trigger oceans of good energy among all kinds of people. Soon Mexibar in the small room one of the city's best night-time economy, and it was not long before we decided to shut the restaurant down and expand the area of ​​the bar. It was a success.

With several years in the business, we are now moved to bigger and better premises (December 2009) at the Great Hall Street 1, in the old "Café Grape" house, and changed its name to Havanabar. Here, the bar is open every weekend for all who value their free time high, and only seems the best mood is good enough.
