Guide: All you need to know as a student over the age of 18

Then the time has come when you as a student turn 18 and that means 1 thing - SU. You finally get money to study. But there is much more to know when you are over 18 and are students. There are factors such as car, housing, cash register and leisure accident insurance. All this we will help you through with this guide.

As an 18th student in Denmark, you are entitled to SU. How high or low the SU is, is determined by your parents' income - or your housing situation if you live alone. SU is a great thing, you have now been on the school bench for 12 years, and now you actually get money for it. The majority of the students who continue to study after primary school are familiar with the concept of SU, so that we do not come closer to it.

Car

You are now 18 years, ie. that you have the opportunity to acquire a driving license. A driving license that gives you permission to drive a car in and abroad. The car is incredibly good option for those who have a long way to school or where the public is somewhat worse rooted. The car is probably preferable to all students if they could choose, but not everyone can borrow a car, so one has to buy one. Buying a car is usually a rather large expense in buying. Plus it is an extra expense for everyday life due to gasoline and insurance.

Our recommendation is that if you have a long way to school, either because the public conditions are bad or you just generally have a long way to school, then a car can be just the means of transport you need. If you have between 0-10 km in school then we recommend that you take the iron horse, as it is usually the fastest, plus you avoid all traffic during peak hours.

Apartment

You are now 18 years old and you see yourself as an adult, so you might think of housing. There are many advantages and disadvantages of moving away from home as an 18-year-old. You probably already know a little about the benefits and disadvantages of moving away from home, but they are described below.

The benefits of moving away from home:

  • You have your own home you can decorate and customize
  • No one decides on you
  • Out-of-home SU which is often 5 times higher than home-living
  • Possibility to live closer to the studio

However, there are some disadvantages associated with moving out, among other things:

  • Rental / purchase of housing is relatively expensive if you are only at SU
  • No dear mother to help with the household
  • No food unless you do it yourself
  • At times lonely
  • Less space to commit

One can, however, choose to move along with a few friends also the conditions are different. It will be allocated easier to find an apartment and percentage cheaper to share an apartment. However, you are not the master of the home, but you have to come up with the bad habits of your room.

There are many advantages and disadvantages of moving away from home, however, we recommend that you have the economy for it and fully understand what it takes to live alone.

A box-

Now that you are 18 years old, it is time to join an A-box. The reason for this is because you can get free a-box when you are a student in several places. If you enroll in an unemployment insurance fund 1 year before you finish your studies, then the day you have completed your degree gives your unemployment insurance fund the daily allowance equal to approx. 14.000kr. depending on the a-box. You receive the first 3 months so you do not have to stress about having to find a job, or find out if you need to read on.

However, there are some requirements you as a student must comply with in order to get a free membership. In addition, it is important to point out that it is only as long as you are study active on your particular education that the a-box is free - and as long as you are under 30 years of age. There are many A-boxes out there and it can be difficult to find the A-box you have to choose. Therefore, we recommend that you get to know pages such as the A-box Expert who compare the different providers.

Leisure accident insurance

Most people have a leisure accident insurance through their parents, this insurance applies until one is either 18 or 21 years. It is quite essential that you check this out, and we can only recommend that you hurry to take out this insurance. The price is very different from person to person, but a good and safe leisure accident insurance costs between 130-300 kroner a month. You can add a number of choices, which means that you are better protected by damage or the like, this of course also means that you pay more.

A story from the real life: Nicklas in 20 years plays to daily football and has never had an injury. He to daily is serving in a restaurant in town. Nicklas then played a match in Kalundborg, where he is cut down roughly from behind. He then ends up in the hospital where he learns that his anterior cruciate ligament is smoked and he needs surgery. Nicklas had no leisure accident insurance and he could only start workingthey are 6 months after surgery. He got a moderate degree of 8%, but since he did not have leisure-time accident insurance, he did not get the DKK 110,000 as the insurance would have given him for his mean degree.
