A doula is trained to give other women and their possibly. partner support, care and impartial information during pregnancy, birth and the first time after birth. She does not replace midwives, doctors or relatives, but is an additional resource person who creates peace and security along the way. There are currently 3 places you can train for doula in Denmark. Doula training and Doula Mama education takes place both in Greater Copenhagen, while Doula Support Education is home in Jutland.

Common to the programs is that they are divided into modules (3-6 modules) and consist of theoretical teaching as well as a practical course. During the practical course, the students follow at least two women / couples in pregnancy, support them during birth and the first time thereafter. Compulsory supervision is included in all three programs. Admission requirements and certification / diplomacy vary from education to education.

The programs are not SU eligible and currently cost between 14,900 and 17,000 kr.

Doula education is the oldest of the three programs and was for about 13 years ago brought to Denmark by midwife and psychotherapist Pia Hern. Since 2008, the education of the occupational therapist and doula Tina Wehlast Hansen has been conducted.
