As non-resident students, you have to take care of the food yourself - both purchasing and cooking. It should preferably be cheap food, because the money is small, and there must also be room for rent, insurance, phone bill, transport etc. But at the same time you also want to eat healthy - or at least not too unhealthy - so the brain is fresh, and the body is ready for new challenges. SU will not get you rich, and SU loans will have to be repaid, so a student job will clearly be an advantage if there is also a need for a TV package, fitness, hairdresser and other "unnecessary" things. If you live close to family, you can hope to be invited to food there every now and then - maybe give them a hint of a wagon rod - and in this way save a little on the food budget.
Food budget for students
All in all, you have to count on a minimum of DKK 1,500 a month for food, personal care, cleaning products, etc. And here you have to have breakfast, lunch, dinner and two to three snacks. Always have a snack when you are at your hours, so you don't have to go to the canteen and buy too expensive chocolate bars or other quick snacks when you go to sugar.

When you need to move away from home, it may be a good idea to ask for a starter kit as a gift from the mother and father. A starter pack of flour, oil, sugar, oatmeal, curry, paprika, baking soda, vanilla powder, salt, pepper and everything that is always in a well-functioning kitchen and which can last a long time. Then you are well underway.
Don't skip breakfast
It can be tempting to skip breakfast to save money. Do not! It does not benefit you because you get dull and hungry up the morning and need something quick to saturate yourself. Instead, eat a healthy and fiber-rich oatmeal or a coarse sandwich that can keep you going for lunch.
Package ideas for students
The contents of the food package must also be high in fiber and saturated. Vegetables and other remnants from yesterday's dinner can be used as meat pastries, in salads or in a pita bread.
You can also go hunting in the supermarket's "low date" / "save me" disk, or what they now call the refrigerator disk, where they have goods that are exceeding the durability date. There are often orders here. And remember, "best before" or "least durable" does not mean that the item cannot eat after the date. Use your sense of sight, taste and smell. Only "last date of use" must be respected.
If you do not like food that has been in the bag for half a day, and you do not have access to a refrigerator in your studio, then invest in a lunch box with a cooling element, or you want one in birthday or Christmas gift.
Cheap dinner for students
Buying in for one person can be expensive. Therefore, it may be a good idea to join other students living nearby and create a food club. If you live in a college, there must be lots of others with the same problem.
Still, it still doesn't cost a fortune. Because it is not possible to save money elsewhere than on the food budget, if you have to spend money on other things.
You can't help paying half the rent or insurance. You must also be able to come from home to a place of study, so on the transport you can also not withdraw money. If consumption is not included in the rent, you may be able to save a little on heat and electricity, but it is a long-term savings, not money you can use right now.
So it's about being creative, getting everything you buy and buying as cheaply as possible.
Food plan student
We do not get around the food plan. "I don't have time to cook!" Yes, you have! And you can't afford not to.
Calculated on a weekly basis, it will not take you much longer to make a meal plan and buy one or two times a week than it will take you to go to the supermarket daily. Wade uninspired back and forth between the chillers to find out what you want to eat today. Stand in line at checkout. And again tomorrow.
If you come across something during the week you want (no, sushi from outside is not an option at SU), write it down right away on your mobile, tablet or in a notebook. Then the food plan writes almost itself.
If you have a freezer, it is not that difficult to buy a little bigger, but otherwise choose raw materials, you can "recycle" so you avoid food waste - and thereby money games. For example, do you buy 400-500 g minced beef, so you should live on it for 4-5 days. But you can easily do that, without it being the same you have to eat.
- Day 1 - Two chops of 125g - one is eaten with accessories, vegetables, baked root vegetables, etc.
- Day 2 - The second chopstick is eaten in a burger, with coarse bowl and possibly. with the root vegetables from yesterday to.
- Day 3 - Pasta and meat sauce (possibly the sauce from steak day 1) of the rest of the minced beef (150-250 g).
- Day 4 - Pizza with leftovers from days 1, 2 and 3.
- Day 5 - The rest of the pizza possibly. with a little fresh salad and dressing on.
Make sure you always have at least one rest day on the food plan - although in the example above it seems to be 4 days off.
Residues can be used on pizza, in pies, lasagna and gratins, for salads, in sandwiches, burgers, pancakes, pita bread, in soups or cooked dishes. Residues do not have to be the right of yesterday that gets warmed in the microwave.
