Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek was founded by the brewer Carl Jacobsen. It was named after his brewery, Ny Carlsberg, with the addition Glyptotek, which means collection of sculptures.

Carl Jacobsen interest referred to French and Danish art and ancient art from cultures around the Mediterranean. To ensure the collection's future gave Carl Jacobsen and his wife Ottilia it to the public.
