A unique meeting between punk cabaret and baroque music

Odense International Music Theatre is proud to present the Tiger Lillies and Concerto Calendonias A Tribute (of sorts) to Monteverdi in Odense Concert Hall, Carl Nielsen Hall, 29th March 2009 at. 16:00.

A Tribute (of sorts) to Monteverdi was listed in one of the world's most prestigious festivals, the Edinburgh International Festival in 2007, and it is now managed OIM to get this inspiring spectacle to Odense. A Tribute (of sorts) to Monteverdi is a groundbreaking meeting between Tiger Lillies raw provocative cabaret-style Concerto Calendonias Baroque music on original instruments. Claudio GA Monteverdi (1567-1643) was the Italian Baroque and Renaissance composer also known as the opera's father. A Tribute (of sorts) to Monteverdi is a celebration of the fact that it is 400 years since Monteverdi made his first opera, L'Orfeo. The world's leading punk cabaret, Tiger Lillies, is known for its provocative expression, his macabre humor and gypsy-like opera singing. Tiger Lillies' frontman Martyn Jacques describes tributen as "Entertainment with teeth" and explains with a Swedish example, that it's more Ingmar Bergman than Abba. David McGuiness is director of Scotland's leading Baroque ensemble Concerto Calendonia which plays on original instruments from the 1700s, violin, trombone, cello, teorb, guitar, harpsichord and organ.
